Scarlet Remembrance - A shrine to Millicent (Elden Ring)
https://velvetdusk.net/millicent/

I’m late to the plug post, but this shrine refused to be rushed, and that feels fitting for a character whose whole story is about choosing her own ending on her own terms.

Millicent is an optional NPC in Elden Ring: a daughter of rot, born from the Scarlet Aeonia, carrying the same affliction as her mother, Malenia. Her questline is easy to miss entirely, which somehow makes it hit harder. She doesn’t ask to be saved. She asks to be walked beside.

Scarlet Remembrance is built around three voices: Chronicle (narrative prose), Codex (archival / terminal aesthetic), and Ritual (devotional poetry). Each chapter can be read through any of the three. I wanted it to feel less like documentation and more like entering a space, something you sit inside before it explains itself.

Some things I’m especially proud of:

  • the Codex voice has its own visual language: glowing terminal panels, flickering archive headers, pink-tinted annotations
  • there’s a whisper system that surfaces Millicent’s voice at random intervals as you read
  • the whole shrine respects prefers-reduced-motion and supports keyboard navigation

This was my first completed shrine for any challenge, and honestly the first shrine I’ve ever completed at all. I’ve been designing for the web since I was a teenager, so finally finishing one in my late 30s and having it be the first shrine to grace the Resonant Threshold Network feels a little surreal, but very right. It took longer than I expected and I restarted the approach more than once, but I’m genuinely happy with where it landed.

Would love to hear what you think. 🤍

checking in, even though i haven't been very productive again...

  • websites: still nada. was hoping to get stuff done yesterday but then i got distracted by other things, woe. maybe sometime this week? i have less going on.
  • writing: has been middling. i mean i'm still writing my daily nonsense about my ocs, but not much in the way of new project stuff like i managed at the start of the month.
  • gaming: i think i'm 18-20 hours into trails from zero? i'm near the end of the second chapter. since i picked up a new raid commitment in ff14 i've had less time during the week to play, so i've been aiming for weekends. hopefully i can make more progress in the coming week.
    • i did also get pokémon leafgreen for switch out of nostalgia. i keep forgetting when the rival battles are and have been woefully underprepared each time. this is just going to be a now-and-then game; it's nice to pick up when i have no brain for anything else.

that's all the updates for now... i really hate this time of year, i feel so blah.

garden of earthly delights.

This week. I am more than glad it is over. I have had the most acute misfortune of being plagued by exams and headaches, and though the weather has warmed greatly, the cold still lives on in my shoulder and thus, pain. But, enough of my complaining. What inspired me this week?
The delights:
  • Mel's and Jayce's skins dropped in Wilf Rift as I mentioned last week, and upon seeing her skin with purple eyes, I was immediately taken by the idea of Targaryen!Mel. Thus...
  • I have become rather obsessed with writing Mel into the Dance of Dragons, as a daughter of Ambessa (who in this is the daughter of a Targaryen and a Celtigar). I am tormenting Nyiko about it. Lo as well.
  • Some fanfiction were recced to me, and I did enjoy some I found myself. They are as follows:
  • I didn't much enjoy any new music this week, but I did hear a live performance of Raye's Click Clack Symphony. I have the feeling Raye's knew album is going to change my life .... Music that can do that is such a rare and precious thing. I await her album with bated breath.
  •

On writing...
  • I dare say I've forgotten how to write creatively. But, this does not mean I am without muse. I have came up with an entire plot to add Mel (Melaerys) into the ASOIAF universe, during the Dance. With dragons and everything. Am I excited for it? More than you can imagine.
  • What has happened to WCtW you may ask? I have not yet completed Chapter 2. Shameful I know, especially since I need to finish the edits on Chapter 1 and tie everything together nicely. But in all honesty, I hardly have the energy for these pursuits right now, and so I go where the muse takes me. And right now, I have been transported to Westeros with the desire to tell Melaerys Blackwood's story.

Until next week!
